It wasn't until second semester freshman year of my college career that I actually started riding. I had had minimal riding experience and horse knowledge up until that point, just having gone on basic pony rides throughout my childhood. It wasn't until my friend suggested that I go watch an Albion College Equestrian Team’s home show one weekend when I decided I would give riding a try.

I took one lesson a week my second semester in college, since that was all I could afford at the time, and I fell in love. Our beginner horse, Redford, was a saint and he is the reason I am where I am. After a semester of lessons, I talked with our coach about joining the team and she was more than ready to have me aboard. My first year showing was an absolute blast. Everyone on the team was super supportive of me and continues to be proud of every new thing I accomplish to this day.

I am forever grateful to everyone for building me up and supporting me through this journey. IHSA has given me opportunities do what I love and better my horsemanship and riding ability. I haven't participated in a school sport since middle school, so becoming a part of a team took some getting used to. I have become a better person because of this and am more confident in myself and my abilities. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime through every opportunity provided by the IHSA. My only regret is that I wish I had done this sooner.

Thank you, IHSA for everything you've done for me.
