Fairfield, Conn. ­­– March 20, 2018 – The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association held its Western Semi-Finals, sponsored by the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA), March 17-18. Hosting the events were Black Hawk College in Galva, Illinois, West Virginia University in Reedsville, West Virginia, and Alfred University, held at the Hamburg Showplex in Hamburg, New York. Alumni Semi-Finals were held at Black Hawk College and West Virginia University.

Fairfield, Conn. ­­– Feb. 23, 2018 – The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) will host a career fair during the 2018 National Championship at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Friday, May 4, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This event provides equestrian-focused businesses the rare opportunity to recruit talented young people for internships and employment and to educate a collegiate audience about their brands.

Smith College Equestrians Celebrate the Career of Sue Payne Longtime IHSA Coach Honored at Reception

Northampton, Mass. – Dec. 7, 2017 – The Smith College Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the career of Sue Payne with a dinner Saturday evening. More than 75 alumnae, friends, family and colleagues came together to honor Payne for an accomplished 40-year career. Smith College Director of Athletics Kristin Hughes presented Payne with a Smith College commemorative chair. Words of appreciation were delivered by guests including Bob Cacchione, Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) founder and executive director, Tracy Farnham, the former equestrian coach at UMass and Payne’s students from graduating classes 1973 through 2019.

St. Andrews IHSA Western National Champions Send Holiday Packages to US Troops

Laurinburg, N.C. – Nov. 21, 2017 – The two-time Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Western National Champion team along with the IHSA Hunt Seat team and members of their Intercollegiate Dressage team, staff and coaches gathered Nov. 15 at the Avinger Auditorium on the St. Andrews University campus for a special event. Peggy McElveen, director of the St. Andrews Equestrian Center and Carla Wennberg, IHSA Western head coach, led the group in assembling holiday packages to ship to U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa.

Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Announces Scholarships and Awards

Fairfield, Conn. – Nov.13, 2017 – The deadlines for the 2018 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) student competitor scholarships were announced by the Intercollegiate Equestrian Foundation (IEF). Founded in 1984 by Joan Johnson and George Lukemire, the IEF has awarded nearly one quarter of $1 million in scholarships to date.

Anne Brzezicki Founder of Three IHSA Teams and Western Divisions Honored for Career at MTSU

Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Sept. 26, 2017 – Anne Brzezicki was honored at a retirement reception at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Sept. 22, for her many contributions and 35 years of service as to the equestrian program. She played a significant role in the growth of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) programs by founding programs at three universities and establishing the Western divisions in 1978. At the event, the university's equestrian arena was named for Brzezicki.

The IHSA Provides Clarification for Dual Membership Notice to Member Colleges and Universities

Fairfield, Conn. – Sept. 7, 2017 –The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) sent an official memorandum to their board members, coaches for all colleges and universities currently enrolled or intending to enroll as members of the IHSA for the 2017-2018 academic year. The memorandum was an official notification that, until further evaluation by the IHSA executive committee, as of Aug. 30, 2017, any college or university that elects to join the National Equestrian Collegiate Association (NCEA) will be ineligible to join the IHSA.
