ACADEMIC AWARDS

In addition to success in the arena, the IHSA is proud to recognize outstanding academic achievement by its members. The IHSA also looks to acknowledge students who have demonstrated multiple-year dedication to their team while maintaining academic excellence.

IHSA NATIONAL ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS

The purpose of the IHSA National All-Academic Award is to recognize the individual academic achievements of our participating undergraduate and alumni members each year. IHSA members will be named to the All-Academic First Team or All-Academic Second Team when they have been nominated by their coach, Advisor, or designated representative, and have met the following criteria:

First Team – achieving a grade point average of 3.8 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale)
Second Team – achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale)

A nominee must be a full-time undergraduate student or alumni rider who is a current paid member of the IHSA, or, for the 2020-21 academic year only, a previous IHSA member or a new student who has shown an interest in participating in IHSA competitions based on their coach’s recommendation.


Nomination Process:

A team’s coach, advisor, or designated college representative must nominate an eligible student or alumni members using the All-Academic Award Reporting Form. The student’s grade-point average is based on fall 2020 semester grades (not cumulative) and the All-Academic Reporting Form must be signed by the college registrar or official documentation must be attached. Be advised that colleges and universities may require the student’s authorization to release their academic record.

All-Academic Nomination Form

 

IHSA SENIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This award recognizes graduating seniors who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale. To be considered the applicant must have been on an IHSA equestrian team for a minimum of two years if they attended a four-year college or university, or one year if they attended a two-year institution. Recipients of this award will receive a certificate of recognition for their achievements.

The submission deadline is March 30, 2024.

Nomination Process:

A team’s coach, advisor, or designated college representative must nominate an eligible student using the Senior Academic Achievement Award nominating form. A copy of the student’s official transcript must be included to be considered for this award. The student’s grade point average is cumulative for this award.

IHSA SENIOR ESSAY ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Students who would like to be considered for an opportunity to win this special award of $500.00 for the 2020-2021 academic year must:

  • Meet the Senior Student-Athlete Achievement Award qualifications
  • Submit a five-hundred-word essay on the following topic:
  • What “qualities” did you learn from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competitions that have benefitted you in your academic years and will benefit you in your future career?
  • Submit two written letters of recommendation stating why you should win the special award.
  • Agree in writing that should your essay win, you will allow your essay to be submitted for publication.

Application DEADLINE is March 31, 2024 (we will only accept complete applications postmarked March 31st or before).
