Service Project Award

Many IHSA teams across the country participate in service projects giving back to their community.  IHSA would like to give special recognition to these giving teams and help encourage more to participate.

Goals of the Project
  • Build team spirit and leadership skills. RidefortheRibbon.JPG
  • Build team bonds.
  • Increase awareness of the needs of others.
  • Increase awareness of the team and the IHSA on campus and within the community.
3 Divisions
  1. Teams of 1-15 riders
  2. Teams of 16-30 riders
  3. Teams of 31 and over riders
Hunter seat and western riders from the same school must be counted on the team and should participate together on the project.
For 2011-2012- the Coach will declare team population at the time the project is completed for this year. For ensuing years, the team’s registration on 2/15 will determine the category in which the team will compete the following school year.

Criteria
Objective: % of team members participating, number of volunteer hours invested in the project.
Subjective: Power point or video presentation describing the goals, methods, and objective of the project.

Judging
Each region will determine the best project in each size category. This can be done at the regional horse show by the RSEC and alternatives, if necessary.
At the Zone show the Zone RSEC can review the regional winners and select zone winners. At least three winning presentations should be see by all at the zone show.
At the NATIONALS, 3 panels will be selected to review the presentations. We will also arrange to display the presentations so all can see them.

Awards
AT the ZONE show the three winning teams will receive a perpetual trophy to display for the year. If time permits, Zones are encouraged to give the regional winners publicity in their zone program.
AT the National show the three winning teams will receive possession of a perpetual trophy for the year and a smaller keeper trophy to retain. A page in the National program will list the winning zone teams.

Alumni
The Alumni in each region are encouraged to participate as a team or they may decide to participate with their undergraduate team, if appropriate.

Teams should be encouraged to make their administration and or athletic departments award of this project and share their presentations with them to raise awareness on campus.
