IHSA Launches Media Internship: Sept. 10 Deadline for Student Riders to Apply, Build Communications Portfolio

Fairfield, CT—August 30, 2012--
Are you a college rider interested in communications, media or public relations?  Do you want a chance to build a byline and professional portfolio?  Here’s your chance. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) is offering an unpaid internship to IHSA students or coaches interested in representing the IHSA in media, public relations or communications.  Each IHSA Regional Media Intern will work with his/her Regional President and the IHSA Media Liaison.

“With thirty-seven IHSA Regions,” said Kelly Francfort, coach of the Rutgers IHSA team, “there is a lot happening across the country.  The IHSA Regional Media Intern will assist the Regional President or Official Regional Scorekeeper in passing on results from our regular season and Regionals.  This may include photographs.”  In 2011, IHSA began a Student Photography Internship at its IHSA National Championships.

“Show results can fill multiple screens or pages,” Lamont explained.  “It’s our horses, riders, coaches and volunteers that provide human interest stories.”

An IHSA Regional Media Intern can be an IHSA rider or coach; candidates can be undergraduate students or active alumni members.  Creativity, the ability to network among teams in the region, and an understanding that the candidate will be a representative of IHSA as a whole, and not just a single team, are essential.  IHSA will offer one Regional Media Intern the additional experience of working the 2013 IHSA National Championships as IHSA National Championships Media Intern, with the opportunity to work closely with the IHSA Media Liaison and national media representatives.  If you are interested in being considered for this position please check the appropriate box on the IHSA Regional Media Intern Application.  In addition to indicating interest, a winner will also be chosen based on an intern’s work throughout the year.  This is not a paid internship.

The position begins in September of each academic year through May.  Complete an IHSA Regional Media Intern Application and submit it to your Regional President and Zone Chairperson by September 10, 2012.
